FAC Granted for the First Subscription-Based Process Optimization Solution

Using a new subscription-based model for process optimization, steel producers can now implement an operational expenditure-based license model for new automation systems instead of planning for large capital expenditures. With this new concept in place, the first three systems for continuous casters using a subscription-based model were granted final acceptance certificates in Germany and the U.S.A.

Consistent Optimization

Like any subscription license, steel producers will regularly receive software updates and upgrades. These service packages also include remote support for troubleshooting, consulting, training, fine-tuning, and further optimization. Unlike larger automation projects, fine-tuned, continuous updates mean the process optimization tool remains up to date, and experts no longer have to implement sudden or extensive changes at once.

Continuous Support

The most recent installation took place at an integrated steel mill located in the U.S.A. to optimize two continuous casters. During a 16-hour planned plant shutdown, experts could implement the new process optimization tools entirely remotely. After startup, the first casting sequence covered 16 batches and met all required criteria. With the new system in place, the company will receive continuous support, and functions and models can be added or selected annually. New process optimization tools allow for the state-of-the-art production of high-quality steel grades, implementing metallurgical models to increase flexibility and simplify maintenance and service.

New process optimization systems from Primetals Technologies will facilitate state-of-the-art production of high-quality steel grades on both continuous casters at the US-based customer.

Trusted Remote Commissioning

Thanks to the experience gained by Primetals Technologies and the customer from an existing service contract, the project concluded without costly in-person meetings. The mutual trust between Primetals Technologies and the customer was decisive for the successful and efficient remote implementation of CC1 and CC2. The new process optimization systems facilitate state-of-the-art production of high-quality steel grades with continuous and consistent support and optimization.
