Southwire Company and Primetals Technologies have partnered to expand an existing Southwire Continuous Rod (SCR) system owned and operated by an Asian manufacturer, producing wire, cables, and related products. Southwire Company is a leading wire and cable producer, manufacturing OEM wire products, electronic cord products, metal-clad cable, building wire and cables, and portable and electronic cord products.
Increasing Capacity
Providing the engineering, production, and commissioning services to support the project, Primetals Technologies will work with Southwire to increase the Southwire Continuous Rod system’s capacity to 35 tons per hour of electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) copper-tin alloys (CuSn) wire rod. The SCR mill will mainly produce 8-millimeter diameter rods using a trapezoidal cast bar at 6,000 square millimeters.
The SCR system will include a new roughing mill with two 457-millimeter roughing mill stands, a lubrication system, updated drive assemblies for the existing mill stands and shears, and modifications to the current entry shear and the rod cooling and cleaning system.
